Hendrick Raedani is Divisional Head: Alternative and Renewable Energy, Energy Department at City of Ekurhuleni
City of Ekurhuleni discusses the efforts being made to create an enabling environment for the private sector in the energy industry.
The city has initiated a program to purchase power directly from private producers, having already appointed 47 Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to sell electricity to the city.
The city aims to acquire approximately 700 megawatts of renewable clean energy from the private sector through various technologies such as solar and gas.
Additionally, the city is opening its grid to the private sector, allowing them to sell power directly to the city or use the city's grid to reach their customers.
The city also plans to position itself as the Grid Service Provider, enabling private IPPs to will their power across the city's grid or Eskom to reach their customers.
