Kadri Nassiep is Executive Director for Energy at City of Cape Town
Kadri Nassiep explains what prompted City of Cape Town (COCT) to decide in principal to open up to electricity wheeling. He explains that COCT is allowed to provide electricity wheeling under the NRS specifications.
This means that third parties have access to the network on a voluntary basis. COCT strongly believes in consumer choice and the importance of clean, green energy for its customers, many of whom have specific requirements for their power sources due to commodities they produce or export, or branding considerations.
This has been a significant motivator for COCT to develop a framework for electricity wheeling, while also ensuring the city's revenue for funding other services is protected.
The goal is to keep customers happy while maintaining the quality of service expected from the City of Hope.
