Kadri Nassiep is Executive Director for Energy at City of Cape Town
Kadri discusses Cape Town's vision to achieve a green, affordable, and sustainable energy future.
The city aims to transition from an energy market dominated by Eskom, which is currently neither affordable nor reliable, to a competitive marketplace where private sector participants play a significant role.
The ultimate goal is to decarbonise Cape Town by 2050 and make it a net-zero carbon city. The city is also working on establishing a prosumer market, allowing both residential and commercial consumers to install solar arrays and export excess power back into the city.
Kadri mentions that progress has been made in developing these systems and initiatives.
