With Alderman Leon Van Wyk, Executive Mayor at George Municipality and Bongani Mandla
George Municipality's is taking the forefront in enabling grid access. In December 2020, the municipality introduced a "Wheeling" framework, approved by the Council as a service, and instated a use of systems agreement to manage it, considering legal and regulatory aspects.
Policies were also established by George Municipality for private sector involvement in the grid, enabling the sale of generated energy to consumers within the municipality. However, tariffs for this process are still under consideration and need approval from a regulatory body, with the municipality's Council taking the initiative to approve them.
Overall, George Municipality has made significant strides in establishing frameworks for both public and private sector engagement within the grid system.
